Scoring the 2008 Draft
Our study on the recent drafts winners and losers focuses on where a team drafted their players with respect to where those players were ranked on our Big Board.
Dallas got good value by picking up Michael Jenkins at #25, but their biggest heist may be Martellus Bennett with the #61 overall. We had Bennett rated at #39, and would not have been surprised to see him drafted in the late first round. Tashard Choice at #122 was a great value, as was speedy Orlando Scandrick at #143.
Atlanta, with all their picks, did not maximize their potential in my opinion. The run on Offensive tackles in the mid first round really hurt them. They were forced to trade away a pick in order to secure an OT in Sam Baker at #21. We had Baker at #27, but surely he would have been gone at #34 (see Houston and Duane Brown). So give the Falcons a pass on Baker. Its the selections of Chevis Jackson and Harry Douglas that we question the most. Fidth rounders James and Biermann didn’t help either.
